Utilizing a Single Integrated System to Our Advantage

Utilizing a Single Integrated System to Our Advantage

What exactly is the connection between all of this and the automation of processes within commercial gas structures and transportation cycles?

PipelineTransporter or TransactionManager can be fine-tuned to manage transport, sales, and purchase contracts while simultaneously providing improved transaction visibility through an off-the-shelf software solution, depending on the requirements and regulations of the market. PipelineTransporter and TransactionManager are both available for purchase.

The software known as PipelineTransporter or TransactionManager makes it possible to inspect data sets, commercial transactions, balancing rules, tariff structures, informational postings, communication protocols, user experiences, blockchain conventions, and even more. Streamlining makes it easier to overcome limitations by satisfying legal, commercial, and operational goals.

Both of these software tools have been developed with the purpose of managing the commercial business aspects of the pipeline. This improves the ability to operate the pipeline in a safe and efficient manner while also enabling the highest possible level of business acumen to be achieved anywhere.

Because certifications and allocations are linked to SCADA or another alternative gas measurement system, this means that with accurate source data, any and all invoices can be generated and transferred to the transporter's accounting system. A single operational system handles nominations, matching and confirmations, certifications, allocation, tools for balancing, and billing. This system combines all of these functions.

Users are able to access and take action based on real-time data that is provided in relation to points of receipt and delivery, penalties, tariffs, volumes, and more. It is not difficult to locate any and all transportation contracts pertaining to the movement of gas that were negotiated between the transportation company and its shippers. Because of this, it is now much simpler for pipeline operators all over the world to manage third-party access to gas throughout the entire gas business cycle.

Using Models to Make Predictions About the Future

Data and flow patterns from the past can be analyzed, and the results can be used to make predictions about the behavior of future markets and gas networks. Software like Emerson's GasLoadForecasterTM is engineered to perform predictive management and modeling. It is a gas measurement model for official volume and standard composition. A systems-thinking and machine-learning approach is showing signs of growing prevalence in the gas pipeline sector. This is evidenced by the fact that the gas pipeline sector is showing signs of increasing prevalence.

Shippers, pipeline operators, and LDCs are all looking for ways to improve efficiency and throughput in their operations. It has been demonstrated that using GasLoadForecaster significantly reduces the amount of time needed to calculate forecasts. Modeling with neural networks and conducting regression analysis are both helpful in reducing the risk associated with supply and increasing operational efficiency.

The software offers short-term hourly and daily load shapes and results, and it can be provided as a subscription service that is hosted in the cloud. Utilizing a wide variety of data sources ensures the highest possible level of dependability and precision when making predictions about future gas loads. When nominations are being entered, this software eliminates the need for any manual inputs, which is an additional benefit.

PipelineManagerTM is an advanced online pipeline simulation engine for pipeline operations, management, and leak and theft protection. GasLoadForecaster, which can be integrated with PipelineTransporter or TransactionManager, is also 100% compatible with PipelineManagerTM. PipelineManager is based on a real-time simulation of the flow in the pipeline using a rigorous transient computer model that is driven by real-time data retrieved from the pipeline. This allows PipelineManager to accurately predict the flow of liquid throughout the pipeline.

In addition, PipelineTransporter integrates with PipelineStudioTM, which is a state-of-the-art hydraulic simulation tool that quickly and accurately performs steady state and transient analysis of single-phase fluid flow in pipeline networks. PipelineStudioTM is one of the tools that makes up the PipelineStudioTM integration.

Integration with PipelineManager (for simulation in real time) and PipelineStudio (for simulation offline) allows online or offline hydraulic validations and authorizations to be achieved in the scheduling process. PipelineManager is used for online simulation, while PipelineStudio is used for offline simulation.

When taken together, the system ensures that maximum capacity is being utilized while simultaneously preventing any operational violations from taking place.

Increasing Safety and Protectiveness Through Optimization

According to the American Pipeline Institute (API), optimization in natural gas systems is feasible due to the highly resilient nature of natural gas systems, the geographic diversity of natural gas systems, and the high level of flexibility and elasticity in natural gas systems. In most cases, the systems are distinguished by the presence of a number of fail-safes, redundancies, and backups.

The approach that Emerson takes to automation, integration, and optimization is founded on the same elevated level of connectivity and agility as those used by other companies. We have first-hand experience with the benefits that can result from the automation of processes and the real-time integration of gas software solutions.

In most cases, the solutions that are being integrated are a component of a suite that includes leak detection and predictive modeling, the validation of flow condition, and various other activities for validating capacity and nomination—everything optimized under one business umbrella.

Based on the user's ability to optimize capacity, improve imbalance management, and effectively manage hydraulic validations, a fully integrated solution, in particular one that includes a contemporary, ISO 27001-compliant SCADA platform such as OSI's monarch OT system (now part of the AspenTech solutions portfolio), tends to result in increased safety and better network security. This is due to the fact that the user is able to better manage hydraulic validations. This is in line with the requirements for pipeline modeling, oil gas production and transportation simulators, and operational management, specifically for capacity and nomination validations, as well as results for "look-ahead."

Emerson is assisting gas shippers and pipeline companies in increasing their visibility into their activity and inventories. This allows them to connect more closely with the demands of their respective customers. Our models have undergone rigorous testing and have been shown to produce accurate results in validation scenarios on a recurrent basis.

In our opinion, a systems-based approach provides the necessary flexibility and agility to respond to an ever-changing gas systems and pipeline asset management environment. This view is based on the fact that such an approach affords the necessary flexibility and agility. Customers are able to maintain the safety and security of gas pipeline networks with the assistance of the appropriate partner and a solution that is fully integrated, all while efficiently and accurately accounting and billing for a wider variety of products.
