The Deck is not a desktop RTX on the sofa. It is a small PC with a laptop TDP and a screen that forgives less aliasing than you think. This list prioritises hours per charge, not Ultra screenshots.
Born for the Deck
Indies, roguelites, 2D/2.5D adventures, human-speed strategy, and most of what Valve marks Verified and feels native on the sticks. Hades, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Balatro, Stardew, and campaigns you already finished at a happy 30 FPS.
AAA with compromise
Plenty of Unreal 5 titles “run” at 30 FPS with FSR and a high TDP. Running is not shining. If a game wants 12 GB of VRAM on PC, you will negotiate shadows and fog. Play community profiles, not the latest trailer.
Battery
40–45 Hz on indies, 8–10 W TDP, sane brightness. A 15 W AAA is a 90-minute session and a hot brick. The TV dock is a different device: expect different performance and fan noise.
Windows, Epic and Game Pass on Deck
You can. You can also spend the evening fixing launchers. If your library lives on Steam, the Deck is magic. If it lives in three stores, it is a project. Game Pass cloud is a plan B, not the hardware’s promise.
FlexChar covers overlays, Proton and games that break on a Linux patch. This page is the “what do I install tonight” anchor. Continue with FPS (yes, on Deck too), Game Pass and low-end PCs.
Frequently asked questions
OLED or LCD?
OLED if you can: blacks and battery. LCD if it is on sale and you just want into the ecosystem.
Does the Deck replace a PC?
For indies and campaigns, almost. For 240 Hz competitive, no.
