Best FPS games of 2026: competitive, campaigns and extraction

Every quarter a new “killer of X” is born. Almost none kill anyone. A good 2026 FPS is three things: the gun feels yours, matches fit in 30 minutes, and the anti-cheat is not a logo-stamped virus.
Tactical competitive
Valorant, CS2 and whatever inherits the 5v5 throne. Utility, economy, one main. Do not main three games. Rank is a habit. If your PC is tight, Valorant forgives more than an 80 GB Unreal 5 title.
Hero shooters and arena
Marvel Rivals, whatever remains of Overwatch, the weekly clones. Fun is the roster, not treating ladder like a marriage. If the new character is behind a 40-hour grind, it is a shop, not a shooter.
Campaigns
A good campaign still justifies $70 if it lasts and is not a live-service epilogue. Generous checkpoints, accessibility, and an ending that does not require a login. “Always online” news is why FlexChar files those stories — they break this genre.
Extraction and PvPvE
Extraction creates addicts and burnouts. Enter if you like fear of the zone; skip it if you have three nights a month. FOMO here is not a pass — it is your loot.
Battle royale
Fortnite, Warzone, the flavor of the month. Pick for friends and cross-play, not a skin trailer. A 25-minute match plus queue is a session. If nobody in your group has it installed, it is not “the best FPS”. It is a failed hangout.
We update this page when cheaters kill a title or when a new one lasts three months. For hardware, see the FPS and PC gaming guides. For nights with friends, see co-op.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best competitive FPS in 2026?
The one your group already plays. If you are starting alone, Valorant or CS2. Do not open three ladders.
Frame generation in shooters?
Avoid it. It inflates the counter and the latency. Fine in campaigns.
