“Low-end PC” in 2026 is not a 386. It is a classroom laptop with an iGPU, a 2018 tower with a GTX 1650, or a mini-PC with 8–16 GB. This list will not sell you Cyberpunk on Ultra. It tells you what you can play tonight without the fan filing for divorce.
iGPUs and 8 GB of RAM
Stardew Valley, Hades, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Into the Breach and most 2D indies are fine. Older competitive titles: League, Rocket League on low, CS2 if you accept the compromise, Valorant on decent laptops. Fortnite Performance mode sometimes survives. Measure.
GTX 1650 / RX 6400 / 3050 laptop
Elden Ring at 1080p medium, Baldur’s Gate 3 on medium, Witcher 3 next-gen with care, older FromSoft, lots of Game Pass. DLSS/FSR is your friend. 4K is not.
CPU-bound strategy and management
Cities, Paradox at a sane speed, Football Manager, RimWorld, Factorio, Balatro. CPU matters more than the GPU. Close the browser. These games give 100 hours and a school laptop can run them.
What to avoid
Cinematic Unreal 5, ray tracing, shooters that treat Lumen as free. Trailers lie. Check a benchmark for your exact GPU, not Steam’s “minimum”, which is often unplayable 720p.
FlexChar updates this page when a €400 laptop becomes a surprise — or a brick — after a patch. Pair it with the FPS guide and the free games of 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play AAA on an iGPU?
Some, at 720p or with FSR, and not all of them. Indies, older competitive titles and management games are safer.
Is 8 GB of RAM enough in 2026?
For many indies, yes. Chrome + Discord + a modern AAA, no. 16 GB is the comfortable floor.
